Star 99.9 Morning Show Donates  to Edison 5th Grade Class

Mrs. Palmieri's 5th grade class was all smiles after
receiving a $5,000 from Mike and Marit of Star 99.9 FM.

Radio personalities Mike and Marit from the Star 99.9 FM Morning Show recently donated over $5,000 to Wendy Palmieri's fifth grade class at Edison School to fund a class trip to Nature’s Classroom.  This act of generosity came about after the class began writing letters in September requesting donations for their trip.  After receiving one of the student’s letters, Mike and Marit decided to broadcast a show to raise funds for the class.  The first $1,000 was donated by Star 99.9 FM.  Listeners then donated the remaining funds to help the radio station reach its goal of raising $300 per child attending the trip. Mike and Marit presented the money to Mrs. Palmieri’s class in December.  The class is planning its trip for May.

Nature’s Classroom is a non-profit program that provides environmental education in an active learning environment.  Students and teachers engage in a week of hands-on team building activities designed to strengthen peer cooperation and student-teacher relationships, which will encourage the participants to work together in the goal of pursuing knowledge. Beardsley Students Win Poster Contest

Beardsley School students recently participated in a state-wide poster contest sponsored by the Connecticut Higher Education Trust (CHET), a college-savings program for parents, and the State of Connecticut Treasurer’s Office. Under the direction of Cynthia Remy, Beardsley art teacher, kindergarten through second graders drew pictures to answer the question, "What do I want to do after I go to college?"  Student illustrations for the contest included future firefighters, teachers, doctors, scientists, and preachers. Five Beardsley School students were recognized for their outstanding entries and received cash prizes at an awards ceremony in Hartford on January 23.

This contest was successful in bringing the district's mission statement to life by allowing our younger students to creatively express their future goals and aspirations,” said Victoria Egri, Beardsley School Assistant Principal.
