Bridgeport School's Make ConnCAN's Top Ten List
ConnCAN released fourteen Top 10 rankings for schools based on overall improvements in student performance and on how well they served their low-income, African American and Hispanic students. Eleven schools appeared on three or more Top 10 lists this year and High Horizons Magnet School and Multicultural Magnet were among those schools.
This year ConnCAN also released a set of 20 maps illustrating the relative performance of Connecticut’s school districts. The maps are a new visual tool for stakeholders to explore student achievement in Connecticut.
In addition to schools’ performance in math, writing and reading, this year’s report cards feature scores for science. 2008 was the first year that fifth and eighth graders took state science tests.
Data for the report cards is taken from the most recent results of Connecticut’s two statewide assessment tests, the Connecticut Mastery Test and the Connecticut Academic Performance Test. ConnCAN will release its third annual State of Connecticut Education Report with detailed analysis based on these numbers in October.
Other schools making the grade according to ConnCAN include: Greater Hartford Classical Magnet, Hartford; Hooker School, Hartford; Amistad Academy, New Haven; Elm City College Preparatory School, New Haven; King/Robinson Magnet, New Haven; Platt Technical High School, Milford; Trumbull High School, Trumbull and Hopeville School, Waterbury.

About DonorsChoose.org
DonorsChoose.org is a nonprofit organization that connects public school teachers in need of classroom materials and experiences with individual donors who want to help. At www.donorschoose.org public school teachers submit project requests for the specific materials their students need to learn. Donors from across the country, whom we call “citizen philanthropists,” choose which of these projects to fund. When projects are fully funded, DonorsChoose.org ships the resources directly to the teacher’s classroom.
Last year, DonorsChoose.org delivered over $11 million dollars in resources to public schools across the country.
Who Can Participate?
All full-time, front-line educators at public schools (teachers, librarians, guidance counselors, and school nurses) who spend at least 75% of their time working with students are eligible to request materials at DonorsChoose.org. At this time, administrators, volunteers, staff developers, paraprofessionals, teachers’ aides and substitutes can not request materials at DonorsChoose.org.
