BRIDGEPORT POLICE AND STUDENTS TEAM UP FOR A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE
Taekwondo Anyone??
Chief Bryan Norwood and several members of the Bridgeport Police Department launched a new program designed to teach area youth the fine art of Tae Kwon Do. This after school experience is made up of students from Dunbar, Cesar Batalla and Garfield, teaching them discipline, leadership, plus the students now have a one on one relationship with Chief Norwood and other members of the force.
"The program is unique because we offer a nice blend of Taekwondo from Master Jong Hun Lee, the students get their homework done and receive incentives to bring up their grades and change their behavior at home," said Chief Norwood. Students Stephanie Diaz of Dunbar Middle School and Donald Scott, of Cesar Batalla agree. "I don't feel left out in anything and this program is building my self-confidence," Diaz said. Scott said, "I think it will help me be more discipline because sometimes I have a smart mouth. It will also help me to protect myself."
News Channel 8's Reporter Crystal Haynes was there yesterday to cover the story and you can watch her full, live report by visiting www.wtnh.com.
Students meet every day after school and snacks are also provided.
