ALC Day Classes Schedule

FALL SEMESTER
Classes start Monday, Aug. 29, 2011
Registration & Testing - Monday, Aug. 15 to Friday, Aug. 26, 2011 (9 am-2 pm) Classes end Friday, Dec. 16, 2011

SPRING SEMESTER
Classes start Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012 Registration & Testing - Tuesday, Jan. 3 to Friday, Jan. 13, 2012 (9 am-2 pm) Classes end Friday, June 8, 2012 (tentative)

DAY CLASSES:
Monday-Friday; Class times: 9:30-11:30 a.m. and/or 12:00-2:00 p.m.

English As A Second Language - Classes are offered at graduated instructional levels: Survival, Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced.

Adult Basic Education - Students will be placed in Literacy, Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced classes based on the results of the placement tests. These courses are designed to strengthen the students’ basic math, reading comprehension and grammar skills. Once mastered, they will continue to the GED class.

GED - Students will focus on improving their skills in the five subjects tested on the official GED exam: Math, Social Studies, Science, Reading and Writing. These classes are offered in English and Spanish.

GED Tutorial - Specifically designed for those students who need additional help in Writing and Math. This class is offered by appointment and space is limited.

Citizenship - This course prepares students for the United States Citizenship Test. Content includes US History, Government and English Language Skills.



OTHER SERVICES OFFERED:
Technology - Topics include: Keyboarding, Computer Basics, Using the Internet and Introduction to Microsoft Word.

Practice GED Test - Offered periodically in the five GED subject areas by appointment.

Counseling/Referral Services - Available to students registered at the Adult Learning Center.

Students attending ALC classes benefit from attending a computer lab twice a week to advance not only their ESL and ABE/GED achievements, but also their computer skills.


A Summer morning session is also available during the month of July
