Bridgeport Public Schools - "Expect Great Things."
Home

The purpose of the Superintendent’s 6th Annual Literacy Campaign is to encourage all students to become lifelong readers and writers.  Students will broaden reading opportunities and increase literacy skills as they are encouraged and motivated to read and respond to text on a daily basis.

The 6th Annual Superintendent’s Literacy Campaign nourishes the love of reading, and a healthy spirit of competition while nudging young readers and writers to transcend the classroom to a world that is accessible, meaningful, and full of rich opportunities.

Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,

Bridgeport Public Schools is sponsoring our sixth Superintendent’s Literacy Campaign for students in Pre-K thru Grade 12.  The new slogan for the campaign will reflect Dr. Ramos’ theme:

Expect Great Things…READ!

Students will read 25 books throughout this school year.  Students in grades Pre K-12 will participate by reading different kinds of books. After reading a selected book, students will record the title and author on a reading log as well as on a classroom chart.  Students will do an activity or write a response to their reading selection and include it in their Literacy Portfolio.

Dear Principals,

Schools should develop a data wall displaying the number of books read at each grade level, or by individual classrooms.  An end of the year recognition assembly can be held to honor those students who met or exceeded the twenty-five book minimum.
