Bridgeport Public Schools' Holiday Concert
'09 Students Across the
District Kick off the Holidays with Music and Fun
Sounds of Christmas filled the air
as Bridgeport students from around the district gathered
to bring holiday music to members of our community, including
Superintendent John J. Ramos, Mayor Bill Finch, Congressman Himes' office,
city administrators,
BOE and
staff.
Music groups, including
choirs from Harding, Curiale, Park City Magnet, as well as concert
and jazz bands from Multicultural/High Horizons,
Barnum/Waltersville, and Central, performed holiday classics such as "Jingle Bells", "Christmas Through
the Eyes of a Child", and even "The Twelve Days of Christmas", which
was performed with the help of volunteers from the audience.
Other highlights included solos and an Italian Renaissance dance by Thomas Hooker students.
Central's Color Guard captivated the audience with espionage hits
like "Mission Impossible," "James Bond: For Your Eyes Only," and
"Secret Agent Man."
The holiday fervor was kindled by a special acknowledgment to
three students who had submitted the top holiday card design in a
contest. As a reward, each student was given a certificate and a
savings bond, presented by Phil Norgren, President of the
Rotary Club of Bridgeport.
CENTRAL PRODUCES ORIGINAL SONG FOR SCHOOL AND
POTENTIALLY THE DISTRICT
Also at this year's holiday concert was a performance from
Central's choir with the
number “Reach!",
an original song produced by Central
instructors Sheena Graham and
Kentrell Ragin.
The song served as
Central High School's theme song and one that could
potentially represent the district. Lyrics are below:
The mission of the Bridgeport Public Schools and its
supporting community is to graduate all students “college ready” and
prepared to succeed in life.
We, are on a mission, A journey
towards success A mission to achieve, ACADEMIC
EXCELLENCE We’ll strive towards-Aim for-Be a Contender
for Make every effort to LEAVE NO STONE UNTURNED
as we journey
to develop our uniqueness, comply with school rules halt
civic thoughtlessness and promote social
responsibility BRIDGEPORT, WE…ARE ON A MISSION
(Verse
1) We, strive to be, the very best, we can be When we reach,
towards the stars, we define, who we are And our, ability
to achieve Is our responsibility As we grow, we become
leaders for, the next generation
(Chorus) Reach,
Bridgeport reach a little higher Reach, Become those that we
admire Reach, There’s no obstacle can stop us Reach, There’s
no school that’s gonna top us Reach, Even when you feel that
you’re through Reach, and we’ll be there to support you Reach,
Bridgeport reach a little higher Reach, Become those that we
admire
(Verse 2) We are unique, though our goals, may be
one Together, we will go higher than we alone could have
done And our, ability to achieve, is our responsibility As we
grow, we become leaders for, the next generation
