Hooker School Community Honors Former Classmate

Students, Staff, & Friends Cherish Memories Of Kylie Flannery in a Special Book

A memory book was created by friends, staff and former classmates of Kylie Flannery, a 5th grade student who was killed along with her mother in September of 2006. Eighth grade students Ronald Perry, Dieuny Potus, Hector Reyes, seventh grade students Skye Capeles, Crystal Acevedo, and sixth grade student Jeffrey Schilling worked together with staff and friends of Kylie to honor Kylie and the memories they once shared with her.

“Creating this memory book has been a very rewarding, therapeutic experience for students, staff and the parents who were friends with the Flannerys," states Hooker School Art Teacher Mrs. Laura O’Meara. "I am so proud of Thomas Hooker Students for their kindness toward others. Not once did they ask for a reward. They were happy to honor their friend, Kylie, and her mother, Holly.”

These students set an example for others and most definitely represent the qualities of the PBS program: Respectful, Cooperative, Responsible, Safe. This memory book was displayed at Burr Homestead in Fairfield, Connecticut for the Junior League of Fairfield County’s Public Art Show, 3/26 through 3/28, and will be entered in Bridgeport’s 2010 Young Author’s Celebration.

Special Area teachers are also awarding “The Kylie Flannery Unified Arts Scholarship” of $200 to an 8th grade student demonstrating fine character and talent in all Special Area subjects. The scholarship will be presented at Thomas Hooker’s 2010 8th grade graduation ceremony in honor of former classmate, Kylie Flannery, who would have graduated this year.
