Bridgeport Public Schools is Connecticut’s largest school district serving a student population of over 22,300 students that is racially, ethnically and linguistically diverse.  Located in Southern Connecticut, Bridgeport consists of 28 elementary schools, 3 comprehensive high schools and an interdistrict vocational aquaculture facility.  The School System employs more than 1,600 highly qualified and dedicated staff.  We invite you to explore the many reasons to consider a career with Bridgeport Public Schools.

The Office of Human Resources will take a leadership role in order to provide services and support in such a way as to enhance the morale of school district personnel, promote the overall efficiency of the school system and maximize the educational opportunities and benefits available to each child. 

         The Human Resources Department will act as a catalyst enabling all employees to contribute at optimum levels towards the success of students.  The Department will work to:

We accept employment applications throughout the school year.  Resumes and applications remain active for a period of one year, the Office of Human Resources will retain your application for future vacancies. The Office of Human Resources will contact candidates to arrange interviews for all positions.  In addition to the Interview process, teaching candidates will be required to teach a demonstration lesson in the particular content area.

All certified administrative positions require (092) certification.  If you are interested in an administrative position please forward the following credentials to the Office of Human Resources:

Candidates for administrative positions are frequently interviewed by panels consisting of school and community personnel. 


Candidates for non-certified staff positions such as teacher aides must have a minimum of an associate’s degree or the equivalent 60 college credits in order to be eligible for hire.  We also accept a passing score on the State of Connecticut Para-Pro Assessment test in order to be eligible for hire.  The school district frequently has vacancies in the areas of clerical, custodial and security positions. Applications for all positions are readily available.  Please visit the Office of Human Resources daily between the hours of 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. to view our job posting board. 


If you are interested in substitute teaching, please apply in person at the Office of Human Resources daily
between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 4:30 P.M.  for application material.  Upon receipt and review of credentials, (application and education transcripts) eligible candidates will be scheduled for an interview with a Human Resources staff member.  Substitute teachers must have a minimum of an associate’s degree or the equivalent 60 college credits in order to be eligible for substitute teaching.

The Office of Human Resources verifies credential and conducts reference checks for all personnel hired for the school district.  In addition all personnel hired must submit to a criminal background check (fingerprinting) in accordance with Public Act 93-328 within 30 days of employment.

 Bridgeport Public Schools advertises vacancies in various newspapers including the New York Times,
Connecticut Post, Waterbury Republican and New Haven Register.  In addition our vacancies are listed on the CEA vacancy list at www.cea.org and local college placement offices.  During the months of May through August a certified staff vacancy list is published.  The list is periodically updated; a copy of the list is located in the Office of Human Resources and on our web-site at  www.bridgeportedu.com.
